Meta buys Conductor. Its cloud shuts on 20 November, save your work

Do you use Conductor to run several coding assistants at once? I explain what the Meta deal changes, how long you keep access and how to take your data.

In short
  • On 4 Nov 2026 Conductor, an app for running several coding assistants in parallel, announced it is joining Meta. New sign-ups are closed.
  • Conductor Cloud goes read-only on 13 Nov and data deletion starts on 20 Nov. The local app keeps working until early 2027.

In short: Meta has acquired Conductor, a Mac app where several AI assistants write code at the same time, each in its own workspace. Founder Charlie Holtz announced it on 4 Nov 2026 on the company site. According to TechCrunch, Meta confirmed the deal but shared no price or other details.

What changes and when

  • 4 November: no new sign-ups or app downloads. Free users can no longer upgrade to Pro, and existing Pro users keep Pro features for free.
  • 13 November: Conductor Cloud switches to read-only mode. Old chats can still be read and exported, but new messages cannot be sent. Active subscribers get a refund.
  • 20 November: Conductor Cloud shuts down and the company starts deleting cloud user data.
  • Early 2027: until then the local app keeps receiving new models and critical bug fixes, after which it starts winding down.

What to do if you use it

  • Move a cloud workspace to your Mac: right-click it and choose Transfer to local.
  • Download an archive of all your data under Settings → Account → Export data.
  • The company says it has never sold user data or trained models on it, and that it will delete everything when the app shuts down.

How to read this

Conductor had no models of its own. It ran agents from Anthropic and OpenAI, and its value was a convenient way to manage them, with each coding agent working on a separate part of a project next to the others. According to TechCrunch, Meta has been building its own agent, Muse Code, since August, so it is mainly buying the team and their ideas about the interface. Holtz promises something new early next year, without saying what.

For me the lesson is simple: here it takes 16 days from announcement to data deletion, so a backup and a plan B for small AI tools is not paranoia. I write more about these tools in the Coding agents hub.
