What it is for
The README states the problem plainly: models rely on outdated or generic information about libraries, which yields year-old code examples, hallucinated APIs and generic answers for old package versions. Context7 fetches current, version-specific documentation and examples and delivers them to the agent as it works. The repository is MIT-licensed, and the service has its own website.
How to start
The README gives a quick setup with the npx ctx7 setup command: it signs you in through OAuth, creates an API key and configures the agent you choose (the –claude option is for Claude Code). You can also add the remote MCP server manually, passing the API key in the Authorization header. After adding, ask the agent to use the documentation of a specific library and check that the answer agrees with the official documentation.

What to watch out for
It is a remote service, so documentation queries leave your computer: do not put confidential data in them. Documentation coming from outside lands in the model’s context and should be treated as untrusted text. Before connecting go through the five questions in the article How to add an MCP server to Claude Code.
