What it is for
The README calls RAGFlow a leading open-source retrieval-augmented generation engine that fuses RAG with agent capabilities to create a context layer for models. Among its features it lists knowledge extraction based on deep document understanding, template-based chunking that is intelligent and explainable, and knowledge compilation. A cloud service and local deployment are available.
How to start
Start by reading the local deployment section of the README and the documentation at ragflow.io, because hardware requirements and configuration depend on the version. Before loading your own documents, prepare a set of twenty questions with expected sources and measure how often the right fragment lands in the results, as in the article RAG step by step.
What to watch out for
It is an extensive system, not a library for one evening: it needs maintenance, updates and access control to documents. If your knowledge base is smaller than about 200,000 tokens you can do without RAG by putting everything in the prompt, as Anthropic reminds you. Also check what data goes to external services and who has access to the index.
